These instructions will walk the user through installing an IP or Hostname printer on a Mac.
- Find Printers & Scanners in System Preferences or use the spotlight feature to search.
- Once in Printers & Scanners locate the “+” or “Add Printers, Scanners, or Fax” to add a new printer.
- Click IP from the row at the top.
- In Address type in the IP Address or Host Name. In most cases, you would select HP Jet Direct for Protocol and leave Queue empty.
- Change the Name to set a name for the printer. The location may fill in automatically but isn’t required. The Use section may fill in with Generic Postscript Printer. This may Install the printer with limited features.
- If the Printer has a Duplex setting, check the duplex printing box and click OK.
Note: It is recommended that you install the proper driver for your printer. Click Use and choose “Select Printer” then type in the model of the printer. If the model isn’t available, then download it from the manufacturer’s website if needed. Then click Use and then Other. Now locate the folder the Driver was saved in, most likely Downloads.
Download the Driver – If this is a Yale-managed workstation often this step requires ITS for their administrative credentials. The driver can be found at the copier’s manufactures website or by searching for the make, model and the word driver into google.
