BluePrint Support – PaperCut: Hold for Authentication Issue on Mac

Printing at Yale and certain Yale/printing related features require devices to be connected to the Yale Network via ethernet, Yale Secure Wifi, or Yale VPN for access.

The ‘Hold for Authentication’ state on the print job in the Mac print queue appears because the username or password is incorrect and may be stored on the Keychain.

  1. Printing may show a Hold for Authentication message instead of a login box. In some cases, pressing the refresh button will launch the login box.
  2. Verify the Registered user is selected then enter yale\your NetID & password to authenticate.

Note: If the login screen does not pop up, the incorrect username and password may be stored in the keychain. Continue to step 3.

  1. Find the Keychain Access in Utilities. If you have trouble locating it, go to the magnifying glass in the upper right-hand corner and search for Keychain Access.
  2. Under Keychains in the top left corner select “login” at the top and “All Items” below that. Scroll down and locate “BluePrint_BW, BluePrint_Color or paperc-prd-ps3”.
  3. Highlight the entry and press the delete key on the keyboard and click “Delete” when prompted.
  4. Re-initiate a print job to the printer. Verify Registered User is selected and Yale\ your NetID and password.
  5. You should receive a message indicating your document is held in the queue.
