This document will go through different issues that may prevent you from printing with Papercut and how to resolve those issues.
If you are new to PaperCut or the program isn’t available on your computer, please install the Papercut Client at BluePrint.yale.edu/downloads and install the appropriate PaperCut software. The appropriate version of PaperCut is determined based on the device you would like to print to, and the funds used to print. For example, device in the Sterling Memorial Library (SML) Nave or Bass Library will require the PaperCut Student version and require personal funds. While copiers at HQ (Humanities Quadrangle) are generally used for Staff and Faculty, would require PaperCut All Campus Locations and funds may be covered by the department.
Is Papercut Running?
- Verify that PaperCut client is running by checking the taskbar for Windows or the Status Bar on your Mac.
- If the icon cannot be found check and Papercut was previously working, please check your programs/applications for Papercut MF or PCclient and relaunch the application.
- PaperCut requires you to be on the Yale Secure Network to run correctly, confirm you are on the Yale Secure Network, are not connected to a non-Yale VPN and if available that your Network’s DNS settings are set to automatic.
PaperCut is installed and running why can I still not print?
- Besides PaperCut for Students which installs BluePrint printers on your computer, all other versions of PaperCut require your computer to be manually connected to a PaperCut printer or queue.
- If the printer you need is missing or not installed, please contact ITS (203-432-9000) or BluePrint (203-436-9640).
Mac OS– Known Issues
- PaperCut Installation Unverified/Malicious Content Error
- When attempting to install PaperCut a message appears that PaperCut is not verified or malicious with no option to proceed.
- Mac OS up to Sequoia: If you hold the “Control” button and left click the .pkg file, or right click the .pkg file and left click “open” an option appears to open the file.
- Mac OS Sequoia and Newer: Mac OS require you open the file, receive the error and with the error open navigate to the Privacy and Security settings by searching in Spotlight or clicking the question mark and following the links in the help guide to Privacy and Security. Scroll to the bottom of Privacy and Security to the Security section, click “Done” on the original error message and option to “Open Anyway” will appear in the Privacy and Security section.
- Hold for Authentication Message
- When printing for the first time on Mac OS the print job may hold for authentication. Pressing the refresh button will launch the log in box for you to enter your NetID and password.
- If your name appears, remove the name and use your netid. If that fails in some rare instances yale\ needs to be added before your netid. Ex. Name: yale\abc123
- If after pressing refresh no box appears to reenter your netid, it is possible the Keychain feature has your netid or password stored incorrectly.
- Use the Spotlight feature to search for Keychain Access (also found in Utilities) select login and All Items locate the printer you are printing to. For example, BluePrint_Color or HQ_Global and delete the Keychain entry.
- Repeat the print job, refresh the hold for authentication message and the box to enter your netid and password should appear.
- In the event none of the steps above do not work please contact BluePrint at 230-436-9640 or BluePrint@yale.edu
Other– Known Issues
- In some cases, Netids used on 2 different computers will have PaperCut account selection appear on the other computer. For example, if I submit my print job on my laptop to HQ_Global the account selection pop up will appear on my desktop.
